Iron deficiency can cause spoon-shaped nails (koilonychia), brittleness and ridges. It is one of the most common nutritional causes of nail changes, especially in menstruating women and vegetarians.
If nails are spooning or brittle with fatigue, ask for a ferritin blood test rather than guessing.
